I want to install the indoor unit of my split system air conditioner above on old vulcan gas wall heater/furnace (working). I obviously will not be using them at the same time, but just wondering if the heat will affect the the air con unit. There is probably about 600mm between the heater and the roof, so the air con could go in there. After speaking to others on the web, I found the answer. I don't think it is absolutely out of the question. It depends on the type of wall heater. Use a thermometer to see how hot it gets where you are installing the evaporator. As long as its not hot enough to melt the plastic housing than I don't see why not. You will not be using them at the same time so I don't see any kind of dangerous situations. There are plenty of wall heaters that have a minimal top clearance.

No person in their right mind would do something so dangerous.
No you can't. This is the reason you have to be licenses to do HVAC installs/repairs, to avoid these situations
It depends on how hot it gets. Remember, heat rises.
